Our APEX Exploration of Health Sciences and Medicine courses have had numerous experiences over the course of the past few weeks.  Students got to share in an Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) session at Des Moines University.  Senior, Shaye Witte shared, “This demo helped me to get a good grasp on what OMM and D.O.’s are really about. I loved it so much that I have been researching more about it. I think that is one of my top choices for my career path now. I enjoyed it because it is a doctor mixed with some things physical therapists do. It helped that our two speakers were so awesome!”

Students this past week also got to experience an empathy lab at Drake University.  The empathy lab simulated experiences first-hand what it was like to have a disability.  An example of a task was to pour a liquid into another container while wearing goggles that were wrapped in plastic. Students shared it gave them new perspectives on patient care.
